Identity Safe Activities and Strategies for the Classroom

Identity safe classrooms are created by an infinite number of teaching strategies. No one strategy is sufficient to create an identity safe classroom, but a constellation of strategies, working together, can. Yet, we recognize that teachers need to start somewhere.

At the end of each chapter we offer activities that can be done to reflect on practice and explore both the concepts of identity safety and ways to begin to incorporate them into your practice.

You can download PDF versions of the activities provided in the book. They are in a worksheet format and can be accessed at”

For Identity Safe Classrooms Grades K-5: Places to belong and learn go to: Corwin - Identity Safety Activities K-5.

For Identity Safe Classrooms Grades 6-12: Pathways to Belonging and Learning go to: Corwin Identity Safety Activities 6-12.

We caution you not to do the activities without reading the chapter because they will not have the depth of meaning or help you achieve your purpose.

An additional collection of signature identity safe strategies can be found at Share My Lesson - Identity Safe K-12.
